The Opportunity

Amentum is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver ~£7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site-wide improvements, and provision of supporting services.

We are continually recruiting high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is continually delivering major projects over the next couple of decades, so there are lots of opportunities to develop your careers with a leading multinational company that put people first.

As a result of this increasing demand for our services, we are looking for a Lead Civil Engineer to join our CS&A team on the Lightly Shielded Store 1 (LSS1) Project. LSS1 is a 7200m² footprint major project new build on the Sellafield site. It will be a new class of Intermediate Level Waste store for Sellafield with a design life of 100 years. The project is in the Preliminary Design Stage, with the Civil Design well advanced within the stage.

The Role

As a Lead Civil Engineer, some of your responsibilities could include:

  • Work with the CS&A Responsible Engineer and Area Engineering Manager to plan the delivery of the civil design scope throughout the design and construction stages, monitor and manage delivery against schedule, and escalate risks.
  • Lead the Civil team of Engineers and Designers within CS&A and represent the Civil discipline at cross-discipline meetings within the project or with stakeholders. The team is likely to be provided by an external consultant working on packages of work.
  • The Civil Lead will have to provide technical management, direction, oversight, and assurance of the packages and accept deliverables on behalf of the project.
  • Lead the Civil team to undertake the civil design, develop the 3D model, and produce 2D AutoCAD GA and detail drawings from the model and specifications as design progresses through Preliminary and Detailed Design. Ensure designs are safe, fit for purpose, and meet requirements.
  • Fulfil the Designer role under the CDM Regulations.

As a Lead Civil Engineer, you will already have:

  • Have a civil / structural engineering degree and ideally be a Chartered Engineer.
  • Ideally experienced in all aspects of civil design including highways, drainage, and other underground services, fencing, hardstanding, and earthworks.
  • Experienced in using civil design software – Infodrainage, Civils 3D, and AutoCAD for 2D.
  • Ideally have some nuclear experience, but if not, in a similar industrial field.
  • Experience in leading teams, planning and managing delivery, chairing meetings, managing stakeholders, or a desire to expand into this area.
  • Working in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Working knowledge of CDM.
