Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) Lead Civil Engineer
The Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) project currently involves the planning, design and construction of circa 320km of new strategic, large diameter, clean water interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure across Anglian Water’s region. The SPA Alliance is also taking on responsibility for the future interconnector pipelines, a further 260km of strategic interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure.
The Lead Civil Engineer will collaborate with key stakeholders and assist the multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure the project solution is providing best value for business through being fit for purpose and completed on time, to budget, and to the correct quality. You’ll also collaborate with other stakeholders throughout the business to drive continuous developments in engineering, design, and innovation.
The role will be hybrid and attend the Peterborough office 2-3 days per month.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take ownership to deliver design and associated activities in your section of the SPA programme of works.
- Produce or review specifications, calculations, drawings and 3D models in accordance with the responsibility assigned for the task, confirming that applicable quality, safety and technical requirements have been addressed.
- Lead, support or independently review construction-site and supply-chain design queries and change requests according to the assigned responsibility, ensuring responses are timely, technically sound and processed through the applicable change-control arrangements.
- Review and ensure the design CDM deliverables have been completed for projects.
- Understand the importance of design interactions with delivery, procurement and commercial teams.
- Offer alternative solutions where necessary to ensure health and safety compliance and realise best whole life cost solutions.
- Provide technical knowledge and experience to the SPA Alliance.
- Affordability – Understand the overall portfolio affordability and, according to the assigned responsibility, develop or review civil design decisions with proportionate consideration of capital cost, operating cost, risk, programme, carbon and whole-life value.
- Work closely with Anglian Water representatives to understand project and asset requirements, and provide proportionate, evidence-based advice or challenge to standards, proven designs and proposed departures through the agreed governance process.
- Involvement in the interfaces with our GI, Utilities and Environmental teams.
- Input into Construction Design Management (CDM) and commissioning strategy meetings.
- Actively seek out innovative technology and processes.
- Lead or support the adoption of offsite manufacture, modular construction, standard products and repeatable solutions where evidence demonstrates that they are safe, technically suitable, sustainable and appropriate for the project.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Working with the highest degree of integrity, we want SPA employees to take ownership and accountability for their outputs and be driven to continuously improve how they work.
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and have a track record in design of a section of the works.
- Experience of design elements typically associated with a Non-Infrastructure site, would include drainage and highway design.
- Strong technical understanding of civils Non-Infrastructure design (preferably clean water).
QUALIFICATIONS
- Chartered in engineering or equivalent background
- Civil engineering degree or equivalent
