NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

Are you passionate about improving patient safety, driving quality improvement and making a real difference to the care experience of women, babies and families? NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is looking for an experienced and motivated Lead Clinical Risk Coordinator to join our Women and Children's Directorate. This is a unique opportunity to lead on clinical risk management, support service improvement and influence positive change across maternity and gynaecology services. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will help ensure care remains safe, effective and person-centred. As part of NHSGGC, one of the largest NHS organisations in the UK, you will be supported to develop your expertise while playing a vital role in delivering high-quality services for our communities.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location: Any of the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Maternity Units
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, flexible
  • Type: Full-time, permanent

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare for local and GGC wide clinical safety meetings, where clinical risk incidents are discussed. This will include the preparation of detailed and accurate briefing notes and timelines, summarising the events to be discussed.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly gynaecology and maternity AEOG (Adverse events oversight group) meetings, where Serious adverse event reviews (SAERS) and Local adverse event reviews (LAERs) are commissioned, terms of reference are agreed and recommendations from completed reviews are finalised.
  • Assist in the organisation of multi-disciplinary review teams for SAER reviews and support the chair before, during and after the meeting to coordinate the writing up of the report.
  • Develop timelines for maternity SAERs and LAERs and for local safety meetings.
  • Ensure that the maternity teams are aware of recommendations from briefing notes, SAERs and LAERs.
  • On occasion providing insight and learning sessions for the MDT about SAER outcomes and themes emerging from clinical risk reviews.
  • Work with the lead midwife for quality, risk and governance and medical colleagues, to devise and deliver appropriate educational responses from clinical risk reviews.
  • Contribute to national and local reporting and audits.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.

Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically. Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers. Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.
