Lead Commissioning Engineer

📍 Location: Home-Based (UK)
✈ Travel: 100% Travel Across Europe

Innovo Global Talent is proud to be partnering with a leading global Intralogistics and Automation business in the search for a Lead Commissioning Engineer. Due to continued company growth, a significant increase in project awards, and ambitious expansion plans across Europe, our client is investing heavily in their engineering function. As a result, this newly enhanced position offers not only the opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation projects but also a clear and structured progression pathway for the successful candidate.

The Opportunity

As Lead Commissioning Engineer, you will play a critical role in the successful delivery of automated material handling and intralogistics projects across Europe. You'll take ownership of commissioning activities from system start-up through to customer handover, ensuring control systems and PLCs are operating safely, efficiently, and in line with project requirements.

Working closely with customers, project teams, software engineers, and site personnel, you will provide technical leadership throughout the commissioning lifecycle while supporting the development of less experienced engineers within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate on-site commissioning activities across multiple projects
  • Commission, test, and optimise PLC-controlled automation systems
  • Review and validate control system logic and software functionality
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues during start-up and commissioning phases
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, quality standards, and project specifications
  • Support project delivery against key milestones, budgets, and customer expectations
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to commissioning engineers
  • Act as a key customer-facing representative during installation and commissioning phases

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience commissioning PLC and control systems within intralogistics, automation, material handling, manufacturing, or related industries
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming, controls hardware, and system integration
  • Experience leading commissioning activities on complex automated systems
  • Excellent fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Ability to work independently whilst supporting wider project teams
  • Flexibility to travel extensively throughout Europe
