Lead Commissioning Manager – Data Centres
Location: UK Wide
Rate: £700-£900 per day (Outside IR35)
Contract Length: 12 Months+
We are supporting a leading engineering and construction contractor delivering major mission-critical data centre projects across the UK.
They are seeking an experienced Lead Commissioning Manager to take overall responsibility for commissioning activities across major data centre projects, ensuring all MEP systems are safely tested, commissioned, integrated and handed over to the client in line with project requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the overall commissioning strategy from pre-commissioning through to final handover.
- Develop and oversee commissioning programmes, schedules, procedures and documentation.
- Coordinate commissioning managers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, consultants and client representatives.
- Lead the commissioning of critical MEP systems across the data centre environment.
- Oversee testing, commissioning, witnessing, fault finding and system validation activities.
- Coordinate Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and ensure all critical systems operate correctly as an integrated facility.
- Review and approve commissioning procedures, test scripts, test packs and technical documentation.
- Manage commissioning milestones and ensure works remain aligned with the overall project programme.
- Liaise closely with project, construction, design and operations teams to resolve commissioning issues and maintain programme delivery.
- Ensure all commissioning activities are completed in accordance with project specifications, client requirements and relevant industry standards.
- Support client demonstrations, training, operational readiness and final project handover.

Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Lead Commissioning Manager / Commissioning Manager delivering large-scale data centre or mission-critical projects.
- Strong understanding of MEP systems, including electrical distribution, HV/LV systems, switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators, BMS, HVAC and cooling systems.
- Proven experience managing Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and complex commissioning programmes.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary commissioning teams across electrical, mechanical, controls and specialist systems.
- Strong understanding of data centre commissioning processes, testing methodologies and operational readiness.
- Experience working on large-scale hyperscale, colocation or mission-critical data centre projects.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to work closely with clients, consultants, contractors and senior project teams.
- Strong understanding of health, safety, quality and commissioning compliance requirements.
- Relevant electrical, mechanical or engineering qualifications preferred.
