Job Description Summary

As a Lead Project Engineer, you will be responsible for leading a team that designs, develops, configuration, and Verification of HVDC Control & Protection System, and drive consistent design practices, common global processes for projects implementation and provide technical solutions that meet the project objectives.

The role gives an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer to expand their project management skills and personal development within an international project organization delivering complex HVDC systems.

Our Lead Project Engineers are essential to the successful executions of our projects.

You will provide technical leadership to other engineers and customer-facing teams, oversee each phase of the project delivery to make sure that we deliver valuable systems solutions with an excellent operational rigor.

Job Description

In this role you will:

  • Lead a multidiscipline team of engineers specializing in control and protection systems, automation systems, HV & LV power systems, and verification & validation ensuring the overall solution meets customer, contract, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership, advice, and assistance to the overall project team as appropriate, including Tendering, Commissioning, Service, and 3rd parties.
  • Support the Project (Engineering) Manager as required and deputise for them as and when the need arises.
  • Plan and progress all design engineering-related activities, including testing and commissioning for specific projects.
  • Monitor, control, and manage engineering budgets, project documentation, risk management process, design reviews, and quality & change control system in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Support improvement initiatives and ‘cost out’ plans in collaboration with teams from other business units.
  • Act as the primary technical & project interface with all project stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, NPI, and Product care.
  • Ensuring that all activities are efficiently and cost-effectively executed according to contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Manage and lead the team to successfully execute projects with adherence to the project schedule, cost, and contract.
  • Lead and motivate a group of technical people.
  • Act as a problem solver and take responsibility for control & protection along with automation of HVDC solutions.
  • Day-to-day interaction with different functions and joint problem solving within the core team for efficient collaboration and continuous competency development.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Experience in an engineering & project leadership environment.
  • Experience in application engineering in one or more fields, from controls engineering, protection, automation, HVDC, and grid-connected systems.
  • Experience in project execution of HVDC or similar.
  • Experience of design and system integration working on complex multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Controls & Protection of HV & LV systems.
  • Experience of owning the job, making it their own, and adding value beyond.
  • Capable of leading large multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to multi-task on a variety of tasks to strict time scales.
  • Significant analytical, interpersonal, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Customer-centric mindset, experience in translating customer issues / needs into profitable business solutions.

Qualifications

  • Min Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or Project Management & equivalent degree with suitable industry experience.
  • Significant and demonstrated years of experience in Control & Protection systems and have advanced problem-solving skills.
  • A great sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage team organizational risks.
  • Proven skills in managing and leading a team with a strong technical background.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality, and engineering integrity of the solution.
  • Must be flexible with working hours and willing to travel globally.
