Lead Control Systems Engineer - Substation Control Systems

Location: Staffordshire (Hybrid)

Are you an experienced Control Systems Engineer ready to lead the technical delivery of substation projects? Do you enjoy working with IEC 61850, protection and control integration and SCADA systems? Would you like a role where you set the technical direction and help develop the engineers around you?

What will you be doing?

  • Leading the technical delivery of IEC 61850-based Substation Control Systems for transmission and distribution projects
  • Turning customer requirements into system architectures, functional and detailed design specifications, signal lists and test specifications
  • Leading the configuration of COPA-DATA Zenon SCADA, including HMI, alarms, trends, historian and reporting
  • Overseeing the configuration and integration of bay control units, network switches and gateways
  • Coordinating interfaces between control, protection, electrical, networks, cyber security and site teams
  • Leading design reviews, Factory Acceptance Testing, site testing and commissioning support
  • Identifying technical risks and supporting estimates, delivery plans and change control
  • Coaching and guiding engineers, and promoting standardisation across the team

Where you'll be doing it?

You'll be joining a well-established engineering business specialising in operational technology and digital transformation. With decades of experience in advanced systems integration, they deliver critical projects across energy, water, renewables and manufacturing, often in highly regulated environments. This role focuses on substation control systems for the transmission and distribution sector.

What you'll need:

  • Experience leading the technical delivery of complex control system or OT projects across the full lifecycle
  • Ability to produce and review high-quality engineering documentation, including design specifications, signal lists and test specifications
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • A strong understanding of technical assurance, configuration management, cyber security and change control
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer and substation sites
  • Knowledge of IEC 61850 and COPA-DATA Zenon SCADA would be a real advantage
