Lead Controls Systems Specialist - OSI PI
Job Location: Lancaster, PA
About the Role
The Lead Controls Systems Specialist - OSI PI at The Hershey Company Y&S Lancaster plant will support Licorice Products (Twizzlers, Nibs, Pull & Peel, Jolly Rancher Ropes) manufacturing in a high-speed, non-union environment.
This role focuses on data integration and analysis, asset intelligence, and digital solutions for manufacturing processes. Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with corporate and plant manufacturing leaders to define business needs
- Leveraging AVEVA PI System for real-time data, intelligence, and visualization
- Supporting plant objectives through the development and maintenance of digital assets
Responsibilities
Asset Data Integration
- Partner with reliability, process, EHS, and quality leads to define required machine data for PI Asset Framework (AF) development
- Prepare maintenance and capital project requests to enable machine data integration
- Work with corporate engineering during capital design, Factory Acceptance Testing, and commissioning to adhere to Machine Data Integration standards
Asset Intelligence & Analytics
- Develop and sustain digital Asset Twins using the AVEVA PI System
- Leverage PI System capabilities to collect, analyze, and visualize plant data hierarchies
- Provide dashboard and reporting support for real-time process monitoring
- Develop AI-driven analytics (calculations, trends) to help decision-making

Corporate Asset Intelligence Standards
- Collaborate with AI&I Principal Engineer/Solution Architect to set functional data integration protocols
- Define standard data structures (material, recipe, production, quality, maintenance)
- Establish Hershey Asset Framework Template/Element Hierarchy policies
PI System Administration
- Maintain PI System servers, applications, and infrastructure (ensuring uptime/data availability)
- Troubleshoot data/application issues with AI&I CoP and AVEVA PI Support
- Configure PI Tags to balance storage and data quality
- Coordinate networking changes with IT, including server patching
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years in manufacturing operations (with experience in controls/systems)
- 4+ years in controls systems, data analysis, or dashboard configurations
- 4+ years with OSI PI Software
- Experience leading multiply projects
- Proficiency in:
- Industrial protocols (OPC, MQTT, OPC UA, TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, MODBUS, Profinet)
- PLC/SCADA systems (Rockwell Studio 5000 preferred)
- Basic SQL, data historians, and servers (virtualization)
- Continuous Improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma) is a plus
- Strong troubleshooting, project management, and team collaboration skills

Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with AVEVA PI System tools
- SCADA/HMI graphics development
- Advanced analytics (Math/SQL programming is essential)
- Experience training/mentoring technical (plant) teams
Soft Skills
- Excellent written/oral communication, creativity, and problem-solving
- Ability to lead in fast-paced environments with limited supervision
- Willingness to adapt to change and work with leadership/stakeholders
