Founding Lead Coordinator — Programme & Operations
EmergIT CIC
Help build the institution that turns graduate displacement into founder creation.
About EmergIT
EmergIT is a new Community Interest Company helping unemployed and underemployed graduates move from job applicants to founders and co-owners of their own ventures.
AI is reshaping the graduate labour market and reducing many of the entry-level opportunities that traditionally provided the first rung of a career. EmergIT exists to turn that displacement into founder creation by giving graduates the team, structure, funding and AI tools they need to build businesses and social-impact ventures of their own.
We are not a business school, a conventional accelerator or a grant scheme that offers a workshop and then steps away.
We build alongside the people we back. www.emergit.org
How the EmergIT model works
A Project Lead brings forward a commercial or social-impact venture idea. Once approved, they gain access to EmergIT’s pre-screened talent pool and assemble a founding team of three to five collaborators across disciplines such as:
- Tech and IT
- Legal and governance
- Finance
- Marketing
- Operations
- Design
The full team is formed before incorporation. Commercial teams become directors and shareholders from Day 1. Social-impact teams take appropriate governance roles within their CIC, charity or CIO.
EmergIT then provides:
- a £5,000 micro-grant paid into the venture
- a structured six-month core sprint
- milestone-based funding
- weekly accountability
- mentor support
- AI tools and platform access
- up to six additional months of support for viable ventures
Commercial ventures retain their own intellectual property and allocate the remaining founder equity between the Project Lead and co-founders after EmergIT’s agreed 7% stake. The Project Lead retains a majority, but there is no fixed 55/45 formula. Equity is agreed according to the roles, responsibilities and contributions of the actual team.
As the venture reaches its milestones, it operates with increasing independence. EmergIT remains connected through its agreed equity interest, reporting framework and wider syndicate network.
The opportunity
We are currently recruiting the five founding co-founders who will build EmergIT itself. These roles will operate remotely, allowing us to assemble the strongest possible founding team from anywhere in the UK.
The Founding Lead Coordinator will be the first of those appointments and will help assemble the remaining founding team across:
- Tech and IT
- Legal
- Finance
- Marketing
This is a rare opportunity to help create a new social enterprise from the ground up and shape the systems, culture and operating model before the first full graduate cohort launches. Remote online working will be required to ensure that we get the best people from anywhere in The UK.
The role
We are looking for a driven, highly organised and strategically minded individual to take day-to-day ownership of programme coordination and execution.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You will work closely with Ian Rea, EmergIT’s Founding Director, on strategy, governance and major commitments, while taking practical responsibility for turning the plan into an operating institution.
This is not a conventional junior coordination role. It is closer to an early-stage programme lead or startup operations role with significant responsibility, ambiguity and influence.
Key responsibilities
-
Build the founding team
- Help recruit and assemble the remaining four founding co-founders
- Coordinate interviews, onboarding and early team formation
- Help define responsibilities, workflows and decision-making processes
- Build a strong internal culture around accountability, pace and mission
-
Drive programme development
- Turn the business plan into a practical delivery roadmap
- Coordinate the design of the six-month graduate venture sprint
- Help build application, selection, matching and onboarding processes
- Establish milestone tracking and the weekly Friday Dashboard system
- Keep the founding team aligned against priorities, deadlines and dependencies
-
Manage day-to-day operations
- Maintain momentum across workstreams
- Run team meetings and track actions
- Identify blockers early and drive them towards resolution
- Coordinate documentation, reporting and stakeholder communication
- Help prepare the organisation for its first full cohort
-
Develop external relationships
- Help build relationships with universities, careers services and enterprise centres
- Support engagement with Government, DWP, Jobcentre Plus and institutional partners
- Coordinate conversations with prospective funders, mentors and corporate partners
- Represent EmergIT professionally in meetings and early-stage partnership discussions
-
Support venture selection
- Work with the Founding Director and future programme team to assess proposed ventures
- Help evaluate applicant commitment, team fit and execution potential
- Contribute operational judgement without directing the day-to-day decisions of supported ventures
- Help ensure selection is based on capability, commitment and AI fluency rather than polish or privilege
-
Support communications
- Work with the Marketing Co-Founder on recruitment campaigns and public messaging
- Help ensure content reflects the business plan and does not overpromise
- Support LinkedIn, website and partner communications where operational input is needed
Primary ownership of brand, content strategy and social channels will sit with the Marketing Co-Founder rather than the Lead Coordinator.
What we are looking for
We are not looking for the person with the most polished CV or the deepest store of memorised knowledge.
We value judgement, creativity, initiative and the ability to use AI effectively.
You should be:
- naturally organised and able to create structure from ambiguity
- creative and lateral in your thinking
- confident using AI to research, plan, draft, analyse and solve problems
- excellent with people
- able to recruit, motivate and coordinate a small founding team
- comfortable taking responsibility without needing constant direction
- commercially aware and mission-driven
- willing to do unglamorous operational work as well as strategic work
- able to challenge constructively and make sensible decisions under pressure
- deeply motivated by improving the options available to graduates facing a difficult labour market

Get help with your application
Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
You do not need prior experience in every area. You do need evidence that you can build, organise, deliver or lead something under real constraints.
Time commitment
This role requires a serious commitment of approximately 20 hours or more per week for up to six months.
It is designed to be undertaken alongside employment, study, Universal Credit or another source of income.
Applicants should be realistic about whether they can sustain the commitment. This is an active founding role, not an occasional advisory position.
Important note on compensation
This is an unpaid founding-sprint opportunity, not a conventional salaried vacancy.
EmergIT is currently building its founding team and seeking a £250,000 institutional grant to launch the full programme.
If that funding is secured and the agreed organisational milestones are reached, the intention is for the five founding co-founders to transition into full-time, salaried Executive Director roles.
Longer-term incentives may include performance-related compensation, subject to:
- available funding
- board approval
- CIC governance requirements
- conflict-of-interest controls
- achievement of programme KPIs
No salary, bonus or future position can be guaranteed before funding is secured.
The role does not include equity in EmergIT CIC. EmergIT is a Community Interest Company Limited by Guarantee and operates under an asset lock so no equity can be given.
Why join now?
The first people who join EmergIT will not inherit a finished organisation.
They will shape it.
You will help decide:
- how graduates are selected
- how teams are formed
- how ventures are supported
- how progress is measured
- how the culture feels
- how the institution presents itself to funders, universities and Government
- how EmergIT moves from a bold idea to a functioning national model
This is an opportunity to help build something with genuine public purpose and commercial discipline.
Other founding roles
Once the Founding Lead Coordinator is appointed, EmergIT will recruit four additional founding co-founders:
- Tech and IT Co-Founder
- Legal Co-Founder
- Finance Co-Founder
- Marketing Co-Founder
Applicants interested in one of these positions are welcome to register their interest now.
How to apply
Send a direct message or email with the subject:

- a short introduction
- why EmergIT’s mission matters to you

- your weekly availability
- what you believe you could help EmergIT achieve in its first six months
