National Grid is hiring a Lead Cyber Security Assurance Consultant on a permanent basis. This position is based in Warwick and operates under a hybrid working model.
About the Role
As Lead Cyber Security Assurance Consultant, you'll be responsible for providing cyber security assurance, risk management, and consultancy expertise across National Grid Ventures' critical national infrastructure assets.
You'll support compliance with the NIS Regulations and application of the Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF), ensuring cyber risks are identified, assessed, and appropriately managed. Acting as a trusted advisor to business, technology, and operational stakeholders, you'll provide independent challenge, assurance, and practical security guidance to support secure and resilient operations.
What You'll Do
Cyber Assurance & Compliance
- Lead and support cyber assurance activities across NGV assets and services.
- Coordinate and contribute to NIS compliance activities, including CAF assessments, assurance strategies, and annual reporting.
- Support regulatory inspections and engagement with relevant authorities, including Ofgem and NCSC.
- Develop assurance plans and evaluate the effectiveness of cyber security controls.
Cyber Risk Management
- Conduct cyber security risk assessments for systems, projects, suppliers, and operational environments.
- Support the identification, assessment, and treatment of cyber risks.
- Maintain traceability between risks, controls, improvement activities, and assurance outcomes.
- Provide independent review and challenge of risk decisions and mitigation plans.
Security Consultancy
- Provide pragmatic cyber security advice to business, project, and operational teams.
- Review proposed technology changes and provide security recommendations aligned to policy, standards, and risk appetite.
- Advise stakeholders on security requirements, control implementation, and cyber resilience improvements.
- Promote secure-by-design principles throughout the project and operational lifecycle.

Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare reports, metrics, and assurance updates for senior leadership and governance forums.
- Develop and maintain cyber security policies, standards, procedures, and guidance.
- Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and external partners.
- Act as a trusted advisor on cyber security, risk management, and assurance matters.
About You
- Degree qualified or equivalent professional experience.
- Significant experience in cyber security assurance, risk management, or consultancy roles.
- Demonstrable experience applying the NIS Regulations and Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF).
- Experience working within Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) or other highly regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of cyber risk management, security governance, and assurance practices.
- Experience conducting cyber security risk assessments and control effectiveness reviews.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and communicate complex security issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong report writing, presentation, and analytical skills.
- Energy, utilities, or Operational Technology (OT) experience.
- Experience supporting regulatory inspections and external audits.
- Knowledge of security architecture and secure-by-design principles.
- Experience with supplier security assurance and third-party risk management.
- Familiarity with ISO 27001, IEC 62443, NIST CSF, or similar frameworks.
- One or more relevant certifications would be advantageous, such as CISSP, CISM, SABSA, CRISC, TOGAF, GIAC, or ISA/IEC 62443.
What You'll Get
Competitive Salary: circa £70,000 – £87,000 per annum (based on capability, and experience)
