Lead Data Engineer
London | 4 Days Per Week in Office
Up to £95,000 + Benefits
This is an outstanding opportunity for a Lead Data Engineer to take ownership of a growing data engineering function within an innovative AI-driven software business. The Role
- Lead and develop the Data Engineering function, defining best practices, standards, and delivery processes.
- Manage, mentor, and support a team of Data Engineers, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Design and build scalable ETL and ELT pipelines across operational, analytical, and AI-driven workloads.
- Take ownership of complex data engineering projects, remaining hands-on with critical development work.
- Define and enhance data models that support analytics, machine learning, and customer insight initiatives.
- Drive CI/CD adoption, deployment governance, and engineering automation.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Data Science, and wider technology teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Introduce and optimise AI-powered engineering workflows to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency.
- Implement monitoring, governance, and data quality frameworks to ensure reliable delivery.
Your Skills & Experience

- Strong commercial experience in Data Engineering within cloud-based environments.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing Data Engineering teams.
- Advanced SQL and Python expertise for data transformation, orchestration, and pipeline development.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, including dimensional and analytical data structures.
- Experience designing and maintaining scalable data architectures.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Experience with Git-based development and CI/CD practices.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams across engineering, product, and data functions.
- Strong communication skills and a focus on engineering quality, governance, and best practice.
