Lead Data Engineer | Azure PostgreSQL, Data Migration, ETL | Public Sector Programme Moving a Critical Service onto Azure | Active SC Clearance

Location

Remote, with one day a month (the last Tuesday) in the office in Staines or Newcastle

Security Clearance

Active SC required

Role Overview

I'm working with a UK public sector programme that's hiring two Lead Data Engineers to move a legacy platform off Actian and onto Azure PostgreSQL. You'll design the migration end to end, from the target data model through to the ETL that moves live data into staging and production.

You'll be one of the two leads in a brand-new Data Migration Squad, working remotely with one day a month in Staines or Newcastle. This is database work, with no Java or application development in it.

There's a hard deadline behind the programme because the current licence runs out, so it suits someone who has delivered large migrations to a fixed date before.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Nice to Haves

  • Actian or Ingres
  • Data governance frameworks
  • Previous public sector programme delivery

Why Join / Projects

You'll build the data migration capability from scratch. The team doesn't have data engineering skills in-house yet, so you'll set the approach, the standards, and the way data moves into the new platform as it comes online.

The work matters to people who rely on the service. Reporting and service continuity both depend on the migration landing on time, and you'll work directly with business and technical stakeholders to shape how reporting works on the new platform.

Employee Benefits

  • Pension
  • Private healthcare
  • Rewards gateway
  • 25 days holiday

If you've taken a big legacy estate across to PostgreSQL before, apply and I'll give you a call.
