Lead Data Engineer (GCP) | London (Hybrid)
KDR are working with a fast-growing technology business using AI and advanced data analytics to tackle complex challenges in scientific research and innovation.
They're looking for a Lead Data Engineer to take ownership of their Google Cloud data platform, joining a small, highly technical team working on products with meaningful real-world applications.
This is a great opportunity to join a business at an exciting stage of growth, where you'll have genuine ownership of the platform, significant influence over technical decisions and the opportunity to help shape the engineering function as it scales.
What you'll do
Own the Data Platform
Take responsibility for the development and ongoing improvement of their GCP data platform, ensuring it can support increasingly complex requirements.

Build & Scale Data Pipelines
Design and develop robust data pipelines, working with large volumes of complex data from a variety of sources.
Shape Technical Direction
Influence architectural decisions, improve performance and scalability, and help establish best practices across the platform.
Lead & Mentor
Provide technical guidance to other engineers and play a key role in the future growth of the team.
Work Closely with Stakeholders
Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams to translate business requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
What they're looking for
- Strong hands-on experience with GCP, BigQuery and Python.
- Experience building and managing scalable, production-grade data platforms.
- Good understanding of data architecture, performance optimisation and engineering best practices.
- Comfortable taking ownership of technical decisions and working independently.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with stakeholders.
- Experience with Airflow, Terraform or GKE would be beneficial.
