Lead Data Engineer (MLOps)
Allianz UK Personal is looking for a Lead Data Engineer (MLOps) to further enhance our MLOps capability.
Where And How You Can Work
This is a hybrid role at one of our offices in London, Bristol or Bournemouth and you’ll be required to come into the office two days per month.
Salary Information
Pay: Circa £80,000 per annum.
Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

You’ll join an agile, stream-aligned team, working with technical and business stakeholders to deliver Data Science & MLOps products that drive commercial value.

About The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Lead Data Engineer with strong MLOps expertise.
In this key role, you’ll help define our technical direction, improve our engineering practices and lead the delivery of cloud-based Data Science products. You’ll also play an important role in developing and mentoring our talented Data Engineers. You’ll be hands-on writing high-quality code, shaping architecture, improving deployment practices and helping the team make good technical decisions.
Your Focus
- Define and drive the adoption of MLOps standards across CI/CD, containerisation, monitoring, alerting, testing and deployment
- Write high quality, well-tested Python code for production pipelines and services that serve billions of requests annually
- Lead the delivery and continuous improvement of high-quality Data Science products that support & enhance our MLOps processes
- Implement best practices and build Data Science products that add real value to the business
- Mentor and develop Data Engineers (from graduate to senior levels)
- Collaborate with business and technology teams, including architects and external experts from Microsoft Azure
- Design, build and enhance scalable processes and workflows
- Champion Data Science and MLOps best practice across the business
- Maintain data governance standards, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve how we work, challenge the status quo and drive positive change

You Should Apply If
- You’re excited to shape how Data Science is delivered at Allianz UK Personal
- You have 5+ years’ experience in a Data/ML/Platform Engineering role, with strong expertise in MLOps
- You’re confident programming in Python and SQL
- You have experience with Kubernetes and Docker
- You’re a self-starter, comfortable working hands-on whilst also thinking strategically about the bigger picture
- You have hands-on experience using cloud services (such as Azure, AWS or GCP) to design & build ML products, pipelines and platforms
- You’re able to design simple solutions that solve complex business problems
- You have an in-depth understanding of the software development life cycle, DevOps and MLOps methodologies to ensure continuous integration, testing and deployment of data and model pipelines
- You’re comfortable dealing with ambiguity and challenging the status quo
- You’re able to build relationships and connect with technical & business stakeholders
- You’re able to explain complex technical subjects to non-technical stakeholders
- You’re familiar with data protection, consumer duty and other relevant legislation
