Job overview:

We’re seeking a talented Lead Data Scientist to work on some of our most exciting and complex challenges, developing innovative data science solutions that really make a difference. You'll get to work with our state-of-the-art, cloud-based data lake, build sophisticated machine learning and Agentic AI models, and mentor a squad of talented data scientists. Having a real say in how the business understands and uses data, you’ll help shape the future of AXA. It’s an exciting time to join us and make a tangible impact!

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver data science projects from start to finish, that provide valuable insights and benefits for the business.
  • Create data science solutions, making sure models are developed, deployed, and monitored effectively using strong MLOps practices.
  • Find opportunities and problems where data science can make a real difference.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and advancements in AI, data science and machine learning through reading, conferences, and industry news.
  • Share knowledge and ideas by researching best practices, testing new concepts, and working with industry experts.
  • Build connections with universities and contribute to open-source projects to keep the team innovative.
  • Help develop and promote the team’s data science strategies and standards.
  • Manage and support a team of data scientists, helping them grow and develop their skills.

Work arrangements:

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) from December 2026. Away from home means attending the office, visiting clients or attending industry events. We’re also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.

Your skills & experience:

  • Proven expertise in data science techniques and machine learning models, with hands-on experience in developing and deploying ML solutions in a business setting.
  • Practical knowledge of MLOps practices to facilitate seamless model development, deployment, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of Agentic and Generative AI and their usage within regulated environments, such as Financial Services.
  • Experience with Databricks model serving on the Azure cloud platform.
  • Previous experience with mentoring junior team members within a data science environment.
  • Demonstrated success in leading end-to-end data science projects that deliver measurable business value.
  • Proficiency in Python, including familiarity with machine learning libraries, data visualisation tools, and version control systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with both technical colleagues and non-technical stakeholders.
