Lead Database Administrator
£80,000 – £90,000 | Permanent | Manchester (Hybrid)
MRJ are partnered with one of the UK's most recognisable technology businesses as they continue to invest in the platform powering millions of customers worldwide.
Following the successful migration to their own proprietary platform, they're entering the next phase of growth and are looking for a Lead Database Administrator to own the strategy, reliability and evolution of their database estate.
This is a leadership role with plenty of technical depth. You'll shape the future of the database platform while remaining hands-on with architecture, performance, automation and operational excellence.
The Role:
You'll lead the database function, taking ownership of highly available, secure and scalable database platforms that support critical customer-facing systems.
Working closely with Engineering, Architecture, DevOps and Platform teams, you'll define database standards, mentor the DBA team and drive continuous improvements across performance, automation and resilience.
If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges while influencing engineering strategy, this is an opportunity to make a significant impact within a modern technology environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
