About Rainmaker
Rainmaker is built to give lawyers business intelligence for Business Development (BD): legal news and deal data, a BD tool for building and managing approaches to prospective clients, plus a live rankings system that lets lawyers credential their work against their peers. Product set for launch later this year. This is an AI-first product in the legal tech space; you'll get to work with a disruptive product as it impacts a new market.
Where we are
We are early stage and pre-product-market-fit, launching to first customers in November. The platform was built with an external engineering agency and we are bringing engineering in-house over the coming year. The data platform is the deepest part of what exists: an evidence-based medallion architecture on AWS with master data management at its centre, feeding lawyers, firms, deals, moves, news and rankings into the product. Around fifty law-firm websites have been onboarded so far. You will take ownership of all of it.
The role
You will own product design and creative direction across Rainmaker. You will be the sole designer in the team, working closely with the Head of Product, founders, stakeholders and engineers to conceptualise, prototype and deliver new features that create the most value for our users. This is a senior, hands-on role. You will need to move comfortably between setting the overall design direction and getting into the detail of individual journeys, screens and interactions. You'll also own how design works at Rainmaker. Our processes are heavily AI-driven, using tools such as Claude and Figma to move quickly from ideas to prototypes and production-ready designs. We want you to develop this further and help build a design process where AI and automation sit at the heart of how we operate.
What you'll own
- Product design. The end-to-end user experience across Rainmaker, from early concepts and user journeys through to detailed UI and production-ready designs.
- Creative direction. The visual direction and standards of the platform, ensuring Rainmaker feels consistent, distinctive and premium across every part of the product.
- Design system. The components, patterns and principles that allow us to build quickly while maintaining quality and consistency as the platform grows.
- New feature development. Working with Product and business stakeholders to turn customer problems, ideas and opportunities into clear concepts, prototypes and experiences.
- AI-driven design. Our approach to using Claude, Figma and emerging tools to accelerate research, ideation, prototyping, design creation and iteration.
- Design quality through delivery. Working directly with engineering to ensure what gets built accurately reflects the intended experience and meets the design standard.

What you'll do
- Take ownership of the existing Rainmaker product experience and establish a clear design direction for the platform.
- Work closely with Product and stakeholders to understand problems, challenge assumptions and determine the right experience before moving into detailed design.
- Turn early ideas into user journeys, concepts and rapid prototypes that can be tested before significant engineering investment.
- Design and iterate new features across the Rainmaker platform, from initial concept through to final UI.
- Build and maintain a scalable design system and clear standards for the product.
- Work directly with engineers throughout delivery, answering questions, reviewing implementation and ensuring designs are translated accurately into the live product.
- Use customer feedback, product data and research to continuously improve the experience.
- Own and evolve our AI-first design workflow, finding ways to move faster from problem and concept through to prototyping, validated design and build.
- Help the wider business understand good product and design practice and provide strong design leadership as the company grows.
What we're looking for
You are an experienced product designer who has owned the design of complex digital products from concept through to production.
- You have strong visual and UI craft alongside excellent UX and product thinking.
- You care equally about how something works and how it feels.
- You can establish a creative direction and design standards rather than simply working within an existing system.
- You are comfortable being the sole designer, taking full ownership rather than relying on a larger design organisation around you.
- You have strong leadership qualities and are confident guiding founders, Product, Engineering and other stakeholders through design decisions.
- You are AI-native in how you work. You already use, or are excited to deeply adopt, tools such as Claude and Figma's AI capabilities for ideation, prototyping and design creation.
- You are excited by the opportunity to rethink the traditional design process and help us build a more automated approach where AI and technology allow a small team to operate with significantly greater speed and output.

We’re looking for someone with around 3+ years of product design experience. Experience designing SaaS products is preferable, but not essential. More importantly, show us a product you have owned, the thinking behind it, and how you took it from a problem through to something customers actually used.
How we work
Small, direct and close to the founders. Product, design and engineering work closely together, with designers expected to understand the problem, engineers involved early and ideas tested quickly rather than passed between functions.
- We are deliberately building Rainmaker as an AI-first company, not simply an organisation that occasionally uses AI tools. We expect everyone to be curious about how AI can improve the quality and speed of their work and to actively evolve the way they operate as the technology develops.
Our office is in London; We work flexibly, but expect this role to spend some time in our London office each week.
