Lead DevOps & Automation Engineer
📍 Location: Cheltenham, Manchester, London or Scarborough (Fully Site-Based)
💷 Salary: Up to £75,000 + £5,400 Car Allowance (or cash equivalent)
🔒 Security Clearance: Active eDV Clearance Required
We are seeking an experienced Lead DevOps & Automation Engineer to take ownership of our DevOps and Automation capabilities across secure, enterprise-scale environments. This is a leadership role, combining technical expertise with people management and strategic direction. You'll lead a team of talented engineers, champion DevOps best practices, drive automation initiatives, and help shape the future of our infrastructure and delivery capabilities. Working in highly secure environments, you'll play a key role in delivering innovative solutions, improving operational efficiency, and supporting the professional development of your team.

What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and develop a high-performing DevOps team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
- Build, embed, and mature DevOps practices and ways of working across the account.
- Design and implement automation solutions that improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using industry best practices.
- Create and support services, scripts, and configurations that enable automated infrastructure provisioning and management.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and hands-on support throughout project lifecycles.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and support fault resolution activities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience leading DevOps, Automation, or Platform Engineering teams.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across infrastructure, automation pipelines, and integrated systems.
- Proven ability to take ownership of automation initiatives from concept through to delivery.
- Extensive experience working with Microsoft technologies and Linux platforms within secure, highly available enterprise environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code tools such as:
- Ansible
- Terraform
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using technologies such as:
- PowerShell
- Python
- Bash
- A proactive approach to identifying risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
