Senior Lead Software Engineer, DevOps – Electronic Trading & Data Analytics (London)

As a Senior Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase, you’ll drive scalable innovation in low-latency trading, data analytics, and quantitative systems within our Execution Services Technology department. This role blends DevOps mastery with core software engineering to maintain market-leading tech stacks while collaborating across London and global teams:
About the Role
- Collaborate with agile teams to evolve, build, and deploy secure, high-performance trading technology.
- Deliver business-critical technical direction while fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and operational excellence.
- Apply deep expertise to optimise latency-sensitive, production-grade systems in quantitative analytics and data processing environments.
Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership
- Mentor teams, contractors, and vendors on enterprise-grade software development, security, and DevOps principles.
- Design, review, debug, and produce high-integrity code for low-latency infrastructure.

DevOps & Cloud Infrastructure
- Oversee release pipelines (CI/CD), incumbent capacity, and scalability monitoring with hands-on problem solving.
- Specific duties: Automate tooling (Python/other), microservices orchestration, and cloud-native architecture (microservices, containers, orchestration).

Specialisation & Knowledge Sharing
- Serve as a technical SME in 1–2 domains (e.g., KDB+, Kubernetes, or Terraform stacks).
- Lead firm-wide software development lifecycle improvements and localise disparate team practices.

- Champion cutting-edge technologies (cloud, AI/ML, LLMs for trading support) and tool efficacy for cross-regional cohesion.
- Triage third-level production support for urgent incidents.

- Uphold responsible AI, bias reduction, and cybersecurity standards.
- Advocate for equality, mental well-being, and accessible workflows.
Requirements
Technical Core
- 5+ years developing/releasing production-grade trading systems.
- Advanced expertise in:
- Programming: 1+ high-performance languages (e.g., C++/Java/Python/Rust).
- OS & Scripting: Deep Linux command-line fluency, Perl/Python automation.
- Cloud-Native:
- Microservices architecture, containers (Kubernetes/Docker), and dynamic orchestration.
- CI/CD mastery (Jenkins/Jules, GitOps) with exposure to release management tools.
- Alerting/Monitoring: Capacity planning, troubleshooting tools (custom dermatological/ML-fueled reporting tools).
- Education: BS/MS degree in CS/Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Math/Synergies: Problem-solving rooted in discrete mathematics/logic, financial mathematics, or logistic (~quant roles).

Evolving Tech (Preferred)
- KDB+/Quant Analytics: Domain knowledge of price data pipelines.
- Terraform/Cloud:
- AWS (Google Cloud/Azure acceptable, for true DevOps pros).
- ITOps/Kubernetes:
- Cluster debugging, IAM, observability (Grafana, Prometheus).
- State management and potpourri: IPFS, Istio, or dynamic logging infrastructure.
- Eyes for the future: Familiarity with LMS beyond trading (NLP/speech trends in business systems).
