Lead Digital Designer

We're looking for a Lead Digital Designer to join the team for a 12-month period. This person will be responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality digital design, wallpaper innovation, and customer projects within the Innovation & Digital Design Studio.

Working closely with Senior Digital Designers and cross-functional teams, the role contributes to product development, customer relationship management, sample production, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring adherence to studio standards and processes. The role also supports the development of Digital and Junior Designers through coaching, mentoring, and sharing best practice, helping to build team capability and contribute to the ongoing growth and success of the studio and wider business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

  • Support the Senior Digital Designers in the day-to-day operation of the Innovation & Digital Design Studio.
  • Maintain the highest standards of quality, working practices, and customer service.
  • Contribute to wallpaper innovation, creative development projects, and customer-led initiatives across the Digital, Innovation & Development function.
  • Support the achievement of departmental objectives through effective planning, prioritisation, and delivery of projects.
  • Ensure aesthetic and technical reviews are completed to the highest standards.
  • Produce printed samples in line with established procedures for customer, internal, and product development projects.
  • Maintain and continuously improve file management, colour management, and studio procedures.
  • Build strong customer relationships through regular communication, project updates, and technical support, both remotely and on-site.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting quality standards and tight deadlines.
  • Act as a key contact for designated customers and collaborative projects.
  • Work closely with the Innovation, Technical, and Standfast teams to support product development and business objectives.

  • Support Senior Designers in motivating, coaching, and developing Digital Designers and Junior Designers.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating best practice, professionalism, and high-quality standards.
  • Assist in mentoring team members to enhance capability, encourage knowledge sharing, and foster a positive team culture.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of effective training and development activities for current and future team members.
  • Support workflow coordination to maximise efficiency, accuracy, and customer service.
  • Clearly communicate project briefs, priorities, and objectives to colleagues.
  • Identify training needs and opportunities to strengthen team capability and performance.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and progression of Digital Designers and Junior Designers.

Digital Growth Strategy

  • Support the continued growth and development of the Digital Design Studio in line with business objectives and strategy.
  • Contribute ideas, innovation, and best practice to drive continuous improvement within the studio.
  • Collaborate across departments to support new product development, innovation, and digital capabilities.
  • Help identify and implement opportunities to enhance customer experience, operational efficiency, and commercial success.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience as a Digital Designer in a wallpaper environment to support and motivate the team.
  • Complete understanding of Set & Repeat & Wallpaper Design technicalities.
  • Excellent level of AVA and Photoshop CAD software.
  • Excellent Colour Separation skills.
  • Essential to heave between 3-5 years’ experience of working in the wallpaper industry and or studio.
  • A high level of CAD experience across different software platforms, being able to switch between platforms when required.
  • A proven record of working with Customers and developing customer accounts. Essential ability to review, assess and consider the best course of action to complete challenging work.
  • High level of written and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create effective designs.
  • Preferred Textile Design qualification at Degree level (or equivalent).
