Location: Nationwide travel - expenses paid.

Role Summary

The Lead Driller is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of rotary drilling operations for geothermal boreholes. The role includes operating drilling plant and associated equipment, supervising drilling activities on site, and ensuring works are completed in accordance with design specifications, safety requirements, and environmental regulations.

The post holder will be expected to lead a drilling crew, coordinate day-to-day site activities, and ensure accurate reporting and quality assurance of installed systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Significant experience in land-based drilling operations, including rotary and geothermal drilling techniques
  • Demonstrable experience of drilling boreholes to depths exceeding 200m
  • Experience operating and/or supervising drilling plant and associated site equipment
  • Ability to interpret drilling plans and basic geological data
  • Organised and methodical approach to planning and execution of work
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, site-based approach
  • Resilient, with the ability to work under operational pressure and in varying site conditions
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Essential Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in Land Drilling or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Valid CSCS card, or ability to obtain one

Desirable Qualifications

  • Emergency First Aid at Work qualification
  • Telehandler licence/ticket

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel to site locations as required
  • Ability to work extended shifts and periods away from home, including staying in company-provided accommodation
  • Flexibility to meet operational requirements of active drilling projects
