Lead Embedded Linux Engineer

Nottingham, UK (Hybrid)

An innovative AI-native startup within an established UK technology group is hiring a Lead Embedded Linux Engineer to join their growing team in Nottingham. The company specialises in cutting-edge on-vehicle technology for the public transport and blue-light sectors. Backed by a proven hardware business, this scale-up is a member of NVIDIA Inception and a technology partner of Anthropic (Claude), developing edge computer-vision systems that operate globally across Europe and the Americas.

The Role

This is a hands-on, senior position requiring strong embedded Linux expertise, systems thinking, and technical leadership. You will take complete ownership of the embedded and edge systems that underpin a next-generation, AI-driven transport platform—devices that ingest, process, and manage video and sensor data in demanding, real-world operational conditions. While you will set the technical direction and mentor other engineers, you will remain close to the hardware yourself, writing code and debugging on the bench.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Take ownership of embedded and edge system design across AI and non-AI products, defining robust, scalable architectural solutions.
  • Embedded Linux Engineering: Design, configure, and maintain embedded Linux systems used in edge deployments, managing boot processes and system behaviour using systemd.
  • Networking & Security: Design secure networking configurations (routing, firewalling, VPNs) using tools like iptables, OpenVPN, and WireGuard.
  • Hardware Integration: Work closely with hardware teams to integrate compute platforms, CCTV cameras, and peripherals, including interpreting electrical schematics and PCB diagrams for debugging.
  • Tooling & Automation: Develop diagnostics and automation using shell scripting and Python within headless environments (SSH, UART, serial consoles).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
