Role description

At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world’s leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Lead Engineer – Engine & Transmission to be based at our office Warwick.

Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

Role Overview

As an Engine Transmission Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the integration and delivery of conventional and hybrid transmission systems within powertrain programs. The role requires technical leadership across transmission architecture, driveline integration, validation activities, supplier management, and program delivery to meet performance, quality, cost, and timing targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the integration and delivery of engine & electrified transmission systems.
  • Manage engine & transmission system-level engineering activities throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Define system requirements, technical specifications, and design standards.
  • Lead integration activities with engine, hybrid systems, chassis, controls, thermal management, and vehicle attributes teams.
  • Drive engineering reviews, design releases, gateway deliverables, and technical sign-off activities.
  • Manage supplier technical discussions, component development, issue resolution, and validation plans.
  • Support engine & transmission performance, efficiency, durability, NVH, and vehicle drivability targets.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D and DFMEA.
  • Coordinate virtual and physical validation activities, including rig, component, subsystem, and vehicle testing.
  • Ensure compliance with customer engineering standards, quality processes, and program timing requirements.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers while providing technical leadership within the transmission engineering team.
  • Work closely with program management teams to manage risks, resources, budgets, and project status reporting.

Required Skills & Qualification

  • Strong experience in engine, transmission and driveline system engineering within the automotive industry with 10-12+ years of experience.
  • Experience in engine & transmission integration, packaging, design release, and validation activities.
  • Knowledge of engine & transmission durability, thermal management, NVH, efficiency, and vehicle attribute requirements.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA, DVP&R, FMA, APQP, Six Sigma, and engineering change management processes.
  • Experience working with OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6, Teamcenter, and PLM systems.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and lead engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with APQP, PPAP, and launch readiness activities.
  • Experience supporting prototype builds and production launch events.
