Lead Business AI Engineer
Location: UK – Remote
Employment Type: Permanent
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Lead Business AI Engineer to lead the design and delivery of AI-powered business solutions across the Microsoft ecosystem.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, combining team management with solution design and delivery across technologies including Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Microsoft 365 and Azure AI / Microsoft Foundry.
You will lead a small team of AI Engineers, helping to define technical approaches, maintain delivery standards and ensure AI and automation solutions are successfully deployed across the organisation.
The role is particularly suited to someone with a strong background in Power Platform, Microsoft 365 automation or business applications who has progressed into AI, Copilot and intelligent automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a small team of AI Engineers, providing technical guidance, work allocation and ongoing development.
- Design and oversee the delivery of AI-powered business solutions using Copilot Studio, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Power Platform and Microsoft Foundry.
- Build and implement intelligent automation solutions using Power Apps, Power Automate and Microsoft AI services.
- Define solution approaches using low-code and no-code technologies, reducing the need for unnecessary custom development.
- Provide hands-on support for complex Copilot configurations, agent orchestration, integrations and automation challenges.
- Conduct technical reviews and ensure solutions follow established engineering and architecture standards.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Solution Architects and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into practical AI solutions.
- Ensure AI solutions are delivered securely and in line with organisational governance, compliance and responsible AI standards.
- Support the development of reusable patterns, standards and best practices for AI and automation delivery.
- Oversee delivery quality, timelines and technical outcomes across multiple initiatives.

Skills & Experience
We are looking for someone with experience across a combination of the following:
- Strong experience delivering solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps and Power Automate.
- Hands-on experience with Copilot Studio, Microsoft 365 Copilot or other generative AI technologies.
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure AI services, Azure OpenAI or Microsoft Foundry.
- Strong understanding of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including technologies such as Teams and SharePoint.
- Experience designing and delivering business automation or AI-enabled solutions.
- Good understanding of low-code architecture, integrations, APIs and enterprise application environments.
- Previous experience leading, mentoring or providing technical direction to engineers or consultants.
- Experience coordinating technical delivery, including reviewing work, prioritising tasks and maintaining quality.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Ability to translate business challenges into practical technical solutions.

Desirable Experience
- Microsoft Power Platform or AI certifications, such as PL-600 or equivalent.
- Experience implementing enterprise Copilot or AI adoption programmes.
- Experience building AI agents or automated workflows within Microsoft 365.
- Knowledge of AI governance, security and responsible AI principles.
- Experience working within large enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with ITIL or service-management frameworks.
