We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering and manufacturing business in Coleford for an experienced Lead Engineer (Mechanical) to join their Engineering team.

This is a great opportunity for a technically strong mechanical engineer to take ownership of design packages from concept through to release, act as design authority on assigned projects, and provide engineering expertise across the business.

About the Role

As Lead Engineer, you'll deliver high-quality mechanical engineering designs and technical data that meet customer requirements, industry standards, and all environmental, legal, and safety obligations. You'll be a key technical point of contact, supporting right-first-time delivery, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce mechanical engineering designs, calculations, and technical documentation in line with customer specifications, company procedures, and applicable standards
  • Take ownership of assigned design packages from concept through to release, supporting manufacture along the way
  • Apply effective technical risk management, including Health & Safety considerations, to ensure safe, compliant engineering solutions
  • Provide accurate, complete engineering data to support quality and right-first-time practices
  • Offer technical engineering support to Sales, Operations, and other departments as required
  • Resolve technical issues and provide engineering guidance to colleagues across the wider business
  • Attend internal and external meetings to support projects, problem-solving, and business objectives
  • Act as design authority for assigned projects, exercising judgement on complex engineering problems and escalating high-risk or out-of-scope decisions as appropriate
  • Contribute to departmental KPIs and support the wider Engineering Management Team

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
