Role: Senior Field-Based Technical Authority – Ropes360 Advanced Services
Purpose and Mission
This technical authority will lead complex rope installations and servicing across sectors including offshore oil & gas, offshore wind, deep-water mooring, mining, and structures. You’ll command field technician teams, serve as the primary customer interface, and accelerate Bekaert’s Advanced Services portfolio by establishing technical credibility, standardised processes, and insightful inspection capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Field Technical Leadership
- Oversee and direct complex field service deployments on offshore platforms, vessels, mines, and structures.
- Serve as the competent person and technical signatory for operations requiring qualified sign-off.
- Maintain your own operational readiness to deploy in high-risk or sensitive engagements.
- Mentor and lead field technician teams with a focus on operational execution and training.
2. Offshore & Complex Project Management
- Own complex service contracts from site survey through execution and post-job reporting.
- Develop and approve Risk Assessments (RAMS) and method statements for high-risk operations, ensuring compliance with customer regulations and Bekaert standards.
- Resource coordination, subcontractor oversight, and logistics management to deliver on time, within budget, and safely.
- Facilitate pre- and post-job briefings with lessons learned embedded in future operations.
3. Advanced Inspection, Reporting & Technical Quality
- Deploy and interpret advanced inspection technologies, including MRT, VisionTek 3D optical inspection, drone photography, and ultrasonic testing.
- Author and peer-review engineer-certified inspection reports, outlining condition assessments, life projections, and recommendations.
- Lead rope life management programmes, ensuring standardised inspect-and-analyse cycles for optimal rope performance and longevity.
- Support forensic analysis of rope samples with the Bekaert Ropes Technology Centre.
- Define and enforce globally consistent reporting standards across technician teams.

4. Customer Technical Engagement
- Serve as the primary technical contact for complex/high-risk projects, building authority with engineering managers, rig superintendents, and technical stakeholders.
- Support pre-sales scoping by defining project scope methodology, resource needs, and risks.
- Present technical service proposals and post-project reports for client review.
- Foster long-term client relationships to solidify Bekaert’s reputation as the leading Advanced Services provider.
5. Advanced Services Development
- Collaborate in designing and commercialising condition-based monitoring, predictive maintenance, and bundled service contracts.
- Develop and pilot standardised SOPs to enable global, repeatable service delivery.
- Transfer field-derived insights into new product-service developments.
- Support the development and qualification of innovative services and technical solutions.
6. Training & Competency
- Design and deliver technician training programmes focused on installation, inspection, non-destructive examination (NDE), RISK management, and best practice.
- Maintain competency assessment frameworks ensuring managed capability across your team.
- Conduct customer-facing rope handling, inspection, and maintenance training.
7. Safety, Quality & Governance
- Champion a zero-harm culture, personally modelling highest safety standards in field environments.
- Ensure compliance with Bekaert’s Quality Management System (QMS), regulatory requirements, and client HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental) policies.
- Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and operational efficiency.

Key Requirements
Essential
- 8–10+ years of hands-on offshore field service experience (oil & gas, offshore wind, or equivalent).
- Proven leadership of field technician teams in complex offshore or industrial settings.
- Deep technical expertise in wire ropes covering design, service life fatigue, inspection standards (ISO, BS EN, API, DNV), and discard criteria.
- Extensive experience with RAMS and methodology statement development for offshore/industrial contexts.
- Strong understanding of MRT, visual/optical systems, drone, and ultrasonic testing.
- Ability to write high-standard technical reports for rope inspections and engineering certification.
- Current OPITO BOSIET/FOET certification + a valid offshore medical certificate (ENG1 or equivalent).
- Relevant engineering, technical, or mechanical qualification (minimum diploma/higher national diploma/certificate(ONC/HNC) or equivalent).
Desirable
- LEEA lifting equipment engineer certification or equivalent.
- NDE certifications: CSWIP 3.1/3.2 or ASNT/ISO NDT Level II/III in relevant methods.
- GWO Basic Safety Training certifications.
- Experience with synthetic/fibre ropes in offshore mooring/deep-water deployments.
- Wire/fibre rope splicing/competency.
Technical Expertise Areas
- In-depth knowledge of API, DNV-GL, and Lloyd's Register offshore standards for rope and lifting equipment.
- Experience assessing deep-shaft mining ropes (koepe winding systems, drumwinders, shaft inspections).
- Prior exposure to commercial service contract management.
