About the FCA and team

We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth and shaping the future of financial services in the UK.

SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). We are currently recruiting for a Lead Associate to join our Engagement & Strategy Team within SPEP. Our department has a broad remit across both authorised and unauthorised activities, working to reduce harm arising from non-compliant financial promotions, scams, fraud, high-risk investments and other activities that may lead to consumer harm or financial loss.

The Engagement & Strategy Team plays a critical role in identifying and assessing emerging risks through horizon scanning, risk analysis and strategic project work. The team oversees the department’s risk framework and project portfolio, helping to shape proactive interventions that mitigate harm, support market integrity and deliver better outcomes for consumers across the UK.

Role responsibilities

  • Lead high-profile supervisory projects, delivering robust analysis and evidence-based assessments that help shape regulatory outcomes and protect consumers
  • Identify emerging and complex risks across financial markets, assessing potential harm and supporting action to improve outcomes for people and businesses across the UK
  • Apply intelligence, data and cross-FCA collaboration to spot issues early, helping to prevent consumer and market harm before it occurs
  • Evaluate innovative and higher-risk financial promotions, including cryptoassets and non-mainstream investments, applying regulatory expertise to support sound decision-making
  • Help create positive change by developing creative approaches to reducing harm, working with firms to raise standards and deliver better consumer outcomes
  • Coach, support and develop colleagues while helping to shape team priorities, ensuring resources are focused on the areas that deliver the greatest impact for consumers and markets

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
