Job Description:
Reporting to the Engineering Director, the Lead Fire & Safety Engineer – Detection & Control acts as the discipline focal point for Fire & Safety engineering activities, ensuring technical integrity, compliance with applicable standards and successful project delivery. The position provides leadership and mentoring to engineers and designers while maintaining close working relationships with clients, suppliers and project stakeholders.
The role is suited to an experienced Electrical / Instrument Engineer with Fire & Gas industry experience to provide technical leadership across all phases of a project lifecycle, including Concept, FEED, Detailed Design, Procurement, Testing, Installation, Commissioning and Lifecycle Support.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to Engineers, Designers and Project Teams.
- Lead the engineering, design and development of Fire & Gas Detection Systems, Fire Protection Control Systems and Safety Critical Control Systems.
- Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable industry standards, client specifications and company procedures.
- Review, approve and verify engineering documentation and technical calculations.

Engineering & Design
- Lead and support the design, specification, review and integration of Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (E,C&I) systems associated with Fire & Gas Detection and Safety Critical applications.
- Deliver engineering activities and deliverables across project lifecycle.
- Provide technical support during system integration, FAT, SAT and commissioning activities.
- Conduct fault-finding, troubleshooting and technical investigations on Fire & Gas and Safety Systems.
Project Delivery
- Manage engineering activities for projects under direct control.
- Coordinate engineering interfaces with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and other project disciplines.
- Support project planning, estimating, change control and resource forecasting activities.
- Support proposal development, estimating and technical bid evaluations.
Client & Business Support
- Act as a technical focal point for client discussions and project meetings.
- Support business development activities through technical presentations, site visits and proposal reviews.

Safety, Quality and Compliance
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) standards.
- Ensure all engineering and project activities are conducted in accordance with the Company Management System.
Qualifications/ Experience:
- HNC / HND or Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering or similar technical discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward chartership (desirable).
- Experience working with Fire & Gas Detection, Fire Protection Control or Safety Critical Systems.
- Experience integrating Fire & Gas systems with PLC, SCADA, DCS or ESD platforms.
- Proven experience in an engineering leadership role within oil & gas, energy, manufacturing, or related sectors.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver complex engineering projects successfully.
- Experience implementing engineering governance, process improvement, and quality systems.
- Understand the application of Autodesk Design products.
- Project Proven experience with Engineering Simulation and configuration software – i.e. Kentec Loop Explorer, Tyco MX Consys, HazMap3D or similar mapping tools.
- Familiarity with IET wiring regulations BS7671:2018+A4:2026.
