Leicester | Hybrid
£63,000 - £73,000 + 10-12% Bonus
VIQU has partnered with a leading UK retail organisation to recruit a Lead Frontend Developer to join a high-performing eCommerce engineering team. This is an opportunity to shape the technical direction of a customer-facing platform used by millions of users worldwide while remaining hands-on with modern frontend technologies. This is a technical leadership role rather than a people management position. You'll guide engineering standards, coordinate technical delivery, review code and mentor developers while continuing to contribute to the design and development of scalable frontend solutions.
Key Responsibilities of the Lead Frontend Developer:
- Provide hands-on technical leadership across frontend development using React, TypeScript, Node.js and Material UI.
- Coordinate engineering delivery and support the team in achieving the product roadmap.
- Define and maintain engineering standards across architecture, code quality, testing, performance and accessibility.
- Lead code reviews and technical design discussions for scalable, high-performance frontend solutions.
- Mentor and support developers, helping to improve technical capability across the team.
- Work closely with the Delivery Manager and key stakeholders to manage technical priorities, risks and dependencies.
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, tooling and development practices.
- Support production systems and participate in an on-call rota during peak trading periods.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
