Lead Guidewire Architect

Location: London, UK

Working Arrangement: Hybrid, with flexible working options

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full-time

Overview

Our client is seeking a Lead Guidewire Architect to own and lead end-to-end architecture and design across a major, multi-year transformation of core insurance platforms covering pricing, policy administration and underwriting.

You will shape the target architecture, guide delivery teams and ensure scalable, coherent and well-governed technology outcomes across multiple lines of business, geographies and distribution models. The role includes leading an architecture team, chairing design forums and advising executive stakeholders on complex technology and investment decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead end-to-end programme architecture and design, shaping target architecture and guiding delivery teams.
  • Develop technology strategies, reference architectures, roadmaps and patterns aligned with enterprise architecture.
  • Lead architecture governance and assurance, ensuring adherence to agreed principles, standards and controls.
  • Drive technology reuse and alignment to improve consistency and cost efficiency.
  • Monitor technical delivery against architecture roadmaps and strategic objectives.
  • Lead day-to-day architecture and design activity, including an architecture team and design forums, and resolve complex cross-domain issues.
  • Provide architectural direction for executive-level technology decisions, translating complex technical considerations into clear business and investment choices.
  • Identify and communicate emerging technology and operational risks, supporting prioritisation and appropriate risk management.
  • Build effective relationships across technology, business teams, systems integrators and external delivery partners.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading architecture across multiple large-scale, multi-year transformation programmes.
  • Experience of legacy modernisation and complex migration programmes involving coexistence, transitional states and risk management.
  • Strong insurance industry and domain expertise, including experience working with and governing major systems integrators and strategic delivery partners.
  • Hands-on Guidewire experience, including PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, ClaimCenter and Product Model.
  • Strong understanding of Guidewire Cloud and upgrade strategies.
  • Experience with modern insurance platforms and ecosystem technologies, including Guidewire, Hx and Salesforce.
  • Strong knowledge of the end-to-end insurance value chain, including underwriting, pricing, distribution, policy administration, claims, finance and regulatory obligations.
  • Experience applying architecture governance, principles, standards and controls while supporting effective delivery.
