Lead HV Main Plant Engineer

Location: Glasgow
Sector: Power & Renewables

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead HV Main Plant Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high-voltage (33kV–400kV) substation primary plant systems. You'll provide technical leadership across multiple projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of HV primary plant systems for substations.
  • Take technical ownership of design packages across multiple projects.
  • Design and specify key equipment including busbars, circuit breakers, disconnectors, instrument transformers, and associated steelwork.
  • Develop and review substation layouts and ensure compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across the team.
  • Coordinate with civil, protection, control, and secondary engineering disciplines.
  • Support design reviews, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders while driving engineering best practices.

About You

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years' experience in HV substation primary plant design.
  • Previous experience in a lead or senior engineering role.
  • Strong knowledge of AIS/GIS substations, UK National Grid, and IEC standards.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Bentley Substation, or similar design software.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it) is desirable.
