Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing?
Are you an experienced HV Substation Design Engineer with experience in CDAE for National Grid projects, looking to lead innovative projects. This is a hybrid role, with occasional meetings at our offices in Solihull, Birmingham.
Join our dynamic Transmission Design Team, delivering innovative design solutions for major UK clients including NG, SSE, SPEN, and DNOs nationwide.
Are you ready to take ownership as the primary technical contact for substation design on major infrastructure projects?
If so, your role could include:
- Leading the design development of substation systems from concept to delivery, including primary, earthing, and secondary systems
- Acting as the go-to expert for design, project, and site engineers, as well as bid teams and clients
- Collaborating with the Design Delivery Manager and senior engineers to ensure projects meet programme and budget targets
- Providing technical assurance and ensuring alignment with industry standards and client expectations

What You’ll Bring
- Experienced in the role of HV CDAE on National Grid projects.
- B.Eng or BSc in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering, with honours; or HND plus relevant experience
- Sufficient experience on substation electrical design with considerable knowledge of National Grid specifications, British Standards, and other UK TNO and DNO design standards
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Power Transmission & Distribution sector or similar
- Have the ability to self-learn the use of any engineering software relevant to substation electrical design
- Knowledge (preview drawings as a minimum) in using 2D CAD software (ideally Autodesk products)
