The Role
The Lead Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for defining and delivering Gravita's technology infrastructure, cloud architecture and cyber security platforms. They are responsible for the design and setup, and then handing over the separate IT Support team for on-going day to day support.
The role provides leadership across Microsoft 365, Azure, cyber security, identity management, digital workplace technologies and infrastructure architecture, ensuring technology platforms remain secure, resilient, scalable and aligned to business objectives.
The postholder owns the architecture, configuration, security and technical oversight across a modern Microsoft-first environment supporting multiple UK offices and acquired businesses.
The position plays a key role in technology modernisation, acquisition integrations and the ongoing evolution of Gravita's cloud and security capabilities. Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure & Cloud Roadmap
- Own Gravita's infrastructure and cloud roadmaps across Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, identity, networking, end-user computing and backup and recovery.
- Drive modernisation, cutting technical debt and improving resilience, security and efficiency, while keeping platforms scalable, supportable and consolidated.

Microsoft Cloud Platform Configuration
- Provide technical leadership across Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Defender, Purview and Azure Virtual Desktop.
- Define architecture, configuration, technical standards, governance and best practice, ensuring secure configuration, lifecycle management, resilience, scalability and integration.
- Set up core configurations across Azure landing zones, cloud infrastructure, virtual desktop, networking, storage, identity, collaboration and end-user computing, acting as senior technical authority for transformation programmes.
Cyber Security
- Own infrastructure and security capability across Microsoft Defender XDR, Sentinel, Purview, endpoint security, identity protection, Conditional Access, privileged access management and Zero Trust.
- Oversee security operations with security partners and SOC providers to improve monitoring, detection, incident response and threat visibility.
- Drive cyber risk reduction, security governance, vulnerability and patch management, alert tuning, exposure reduction and continuous improvement of controls, evolving them with business needs and emerging threats.
- Lead technically during major incidents and recovery, and support security assurance and compliance.
Identity & Access Management
- Own enterprise identity architecture across Entra ID, hybrid identity, MFA, Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management, identity governance and access reviews, applying least-privilege principles consistently.
Information Protection, AI & Governance
- Lead technical configuration of Data Loss Prevention, data classification, information protection, records management, eDiscovery and Insider Risk through Microsoft Purview.
- Ensure AI platforms run securely with appropriate governance, compliance, information protection and technical controls.
Mergers & Acquisitions
- Lead technical due diligence and integration, delivering plans across Microsoft 365, identity, endpoints, collaboration and infrastructure, and driving post-acquisition consolidation and standardisation.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Provide leadership, mentoring and technical direction across infrastructure, cloud and security.
- Work with Service Delivery, Support, DevOps, project teams and business stakeholders to meet operational needs, and build effective relationships with third-party partners, vendors and managed service providers.
- Communicate technical risks, priorities and recommendations to leadership and business stakeholders.

Documentation & Operational Readiness
- Maintain architecture and configuration documentation, runbooks and recovery procedures, and hand over all configurations to the support team for day-to-day operation.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:
Essential
- Hands on experience in owning a M365/Azure/Security Tooling/network IT Infrastructure stack
- Solid Microsoft 365 expertise and substantial Azure architecture and operational experience.
- Good experience in deploying security tooling including Microsoft security capabilities (including Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Sentinel
- Strong Entra / AD identity and access management experience.
- Successful delivery of infrastructure and cloud projects.
Desirable
- Relevant Microsoft Azure, Security, Microsoft 365 or Cyber Security certifications.
- Recognised architecture, information security or risk qualification.
- Experience in a regulated or client-confidential professional services environment.
- Knowledge of Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001 and UK data protection requirements.
- Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions and technology integration programmes.

- Core working hours are 10am - 4pm Monday to Friday
