Job Description

As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering and managing high-quality infrastructure services across the full product lifecycle. You will provide expert guidance in the design and development of architectural solutions, ensuring they meet the evolving business and technical requirements.

The Infrastructure Engineering function is made up of a range of technical specialisms. In this role, you will operate within a defined specialism (Wintel Server), applying deep technical expertise and domain knowledge to deliver effective, scalable solutions.

You will lead the delivery of infrastructure-focused services to the organisation, its partners, and end users, ensuring they are delivered within agreed service levels. This includes accountability for financial performance, resource planning, supplier management, and aligning services with user needs.

In addition, you will play a key role in shaping the direction of the function through both technical and people leadership and management. You will support the successful implementation of change initiatives, embedding improved processes, efficient ways of working, and robust operational support models that reflect the evolving service landscape.

Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Aren’t Limited To

  • Oversee programmes and projects (technical delivery thereof).
  • Work with technical architects to translate the architectural designs into operations and support technical architects in operationalising the designs.
  • Lead and direct infrastructure specialist teams in building, managing, supporting and maintaining solutions according to departmental policy (if taking a managerial path).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
