Head of Profession - Interaction Design
Location: Leeds or London (3 days at client office)

About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Head of Profession - Interaction Design to lead and grow the interaction design capability across our organisation.
This is a strategic leadership role focused on defining design standards, driving design quality, developing talent, and embedding user-centred, accessible design practices across multiple products and services. You'll act as the senior authority for interaction design, shaping the profession while influencing senior stakeholders and delivery teams across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and lead the interaction design vision, strategy, and standards.
- Champion accessible, evidence-led, user-centred design across products and services.
- Provide design assurance, governance, and quality oversight across multiple teams.
- Build and develop the interaction design profession through coaching, mentoring, and capability development.
- Drive consistency through design systems, reusable patterns, and best practice.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, User Research, Content Design, and Service Design teams.
- Influence senior stakeholders and support business-wide digital transformation initiatives.
- Foster a strong community of practice and continuous improvement culture.

What We're Looking For
- Extensive experience leading interaction design within complex digital environments.
- Strong background in user-centred design, accessibility, usability, and prototyping.
- Experience building design capability, communities of practice, or professional frameworks.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive organisational change.
- Strong understanding of design systems, reusable patterns, and evidence-led design.
- Experience coaching and developing designers at all levels.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable
- Experience within Financial Services, Government, Healthcare, or other regulated environments.
- Experience scaling and maturing User-Centred Design practices across large organisations.
