Job Title: Lead Internal Quality Assurer (Lead IQA)

Location: Hybrid / On the road
Contract: Full-time
Salary: £33,021.03-£39,463.00

Job Role

The Lead Internal Quality Assurer is responsible for leading and maintaining high standards in teaching, learning, and assessment through effective internal quality assurance processes.

The post holder will oversee sampling, standardisation, and assessor development to ensure consistency, compliance, and continuous improvement across all programmes. The role is central to maintaining awarding body requirements, regulatory compliance, and organisational quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Lead the organisation’s Internal Quality Assurance strategy and activity.
  • Plan and implement robust sampling strategies across programmes and qualifications.
  • Monitor the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment practice.
  • Ensure assessment decisions are valid, fair, reliable, and consistent.
  • Maintain compliance with awarding organisation requirements and funding regulations.
  • Support organisational readiness for external audit, inspection, and quality review, including Ofsted.

Sampling and Standardisation

  • Oversee and complete sampling of learner work, feedback, and assessment decisions.
  • Lead standardisation meetings to ensure consistency across tutors and assessors.
  • Identify areas of good practice and areas requiring improvement.
  • Monitor the quality of tutor feedback, including embedding English, maths, and SPAG development.
  • Produce quality reports and recommendations for improvement.

Tutor and Assessor Development

  • Coach, mentor, and support tutors and assessors to improve practice.
  • Provide developmental feedback following sampling and observations.
  • Identify training needs and contribute to staff development plans.
  • Support trainee tutors and new staff with quality expectations and standards.

Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor learner progress, achievement, retention, and timely completion.
  • Review trends in learner outcomes and identify quality risks.
  • Monitor compliance with Off-the-Job Training requirements, gateway readiness, and learner evidence.
  • Support intervention planning for learners identified as at risk.

Quality Systems and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate quality assurance records and audit trails.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly quality reports for senior leaders.
  • Contribute to Self-Assessment Reports (SAR) and Quality Improvement Plans (QIP).
  • Support policy development and implementation.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Line manage or coordinate IQAs where applicable.
  • Work closely with curriculum leads, managers, tutors, and support teams.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and high expectations.
  • Lead on specific quality improvement projects as required.

Safeguarding, Equality and Inclusion

  • Promote safeguarding, Prevent, and learner wellbeing.
  • Ensure inclusive practice is embedded across provision.
  • Champion equality, diversity, and inclusion in assessment and quality assurance.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Recognised IQA qualification (e.g. Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance Processes and Practice)
  • Teaching qualification (AET, CET, DET or equivalent)
  • Level 2 English and maths (minimum)

Essential Experience

  • Significant experience in assessment and internal quality assurance
  • Experience of sampling, standardisation, and quality monitoring
  • Experience supporting tutor/assessor development
  • Experience working within apprenticeship, adult learning, or vocational education settings
  • Experience preparing for audit and inspection activity
  • Health and Social Care occupational competence up to Level 5
  • Experience in End Point Assessment

Essential Knowledge

  • Understanding of awarding body requirements
