The Role
We are looking for an experienced Lead Java Developer to join our engineering team and play a key role in the design, development and operation of cloud-native services within our clients Accounts platform.
You will provide technical leadership across the full software delivery lifecycle, from solution design and development through to deployment, monitoring and production support. You will work closely with other engineers, architects and stakeholders to build secure, scalable and resilient services using modern Java and cloud technologies.
This is an opportunity to make a significant technical contribution while helping to shape engineering standards, development practices and the future direction of the platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of robust, scalable Java services and APIs.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to other developers, supporting best practices and knowledge sharing.
- Design and develop cloud-native microservices and event-driven architectures.
- Contribute to architectural and technical decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable and fit for purpose.
- Deploy, operate and support applications across AWS and Kubernetes environments.
- Drive high standards across software engineering, including code quality, testing, automation, security and resilience.
- Champion effective CI/CD practices and continuous improvement across the development lifecycle.
- Implement and promote effective monitoring, logging and observability practices.
- Investigate and resolve production issues, taking ownership through to resolution and ensuring lessons are incorporated into future development.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, product teams and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Contribute to engineering standards, technical documentation and development processes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
