Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a Lead Java Engineer to join the rapidly growing Modernisation Programme within Tax Administration. The role requires an experienced engineer with strong Java, Spring, platform integration, and Kubernetes expertise, with React front-end development experience preferred.
What you will do
- Lead technical design and development activities for assigned services within the Modernisation Programme.
- Create low-level designs (LLDs) that build on architectural design work and cover the entirety of each service.
- Translate LLDs into formal impact assessments and actionable backlogs for the Build phase.
- Develop and deliver services using Java, Spring, Kubernetes, and platform integration technologies.
- Lead engineers through technical challenges by developing solutions and guiding others in understanding and implementing them.
- Adopt shared and common components developed within the wider Modernisation Programme.
- Drive ways of working in line with established engineering principles and standards.
- Assure technical quality and consistency across engineering team deliverables.
- Collaborate initially with Architects, QA Leads, and Engagement Managers, transitioning into close collaboration with the full engineering team during Build.
- Contribute to the wider community of Lead Engineers and the Modernisation engineering community within Tax Administration.

Qualifications
- Bring strong professional experience developing solutions with Java and Spring.
- Possess hands-on experience with Kubernetes and platform integration.
- Bring experience leading technical design, development, and delivery within complex engineering environments.
- Demonstrate experience creating low-level designs and translating architectural designs into detailed technical solutions.
- Bring strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work through complex technical challenges without needing all the answers upfront.
- Possess experience technically leading and guiding other engineers through solution development and delivery.
- Bring React front-end development experience; preferred.
- Hold or obtain BPSS clearance eligibility.
