Lead Manufacturing Technician
Location: Royston, Hertfordshire
Salary: Up to £32,000
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
A growing technology business is looking for a Lead Manufacturing Technician to join its manufacturing team in Royston.
This is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced technician to take on a lead role, supporting the build, testing, fault-finding, repair, and continuous improvement of complex electromechanical products.
You will also provide day-to-day guidance to a team of technicians, helping ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.
The Role
Working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams, you will support day-to-day production while helping improve processes, documentation, and technician capability.
The role will suit someone who enjoys being hands-on but is also ready to take on greater responsibility for a team and help drive manufacturing performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day supervision and support to the technician team
- Build, test, modify, and repair electromechanical products
- Provide technical support during manufacturing and assembly
- Fault-find and diagnose issues systematically
- Support repairs and maintenance at operational and customer sites
- Create and improve manufacturing processes and documentation
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste
- Maintain safety, quality, and 5S standards
- Support technician training and skills development
- Ensure agreed processes and standards are followed
- Work closely with engineering teams to develop new processes
- Help maintain accurate production and performance records

What We're Looking For
- Several years' experience as a technician within a manufacturing environment
- Previous team leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong practical mechanical and electrical skills
- Experience assembling, modifying, fault-finding, and repairing electromechanical systems
- Comfortable reading mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
- Able to use standard workshop and engineering equipment
- Understanding of sensors, motors, actuators, wiring, connectors, and mechanical assemblies
- Methodical approach to fault-finding and problem solving
- Good attention to detail and a practical, hands-on attitude
- Computer literate
- Full clean UK driving licence
- Eligible to work in the UK
