BMR Solutions are working in partnership with Edwards, a global leader in advanced vacuum and semiconductor manufacturing technology, to recruit a Lead Mechanical Engineer – Advanced & Development (A&D) for their Bristol engineering team.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineering leader to play a key role in the development of next-generation semiconductor manufacturing equipment. You'll combine hands-on technical expertise with engineering leadership, guiding multidisciplinary projects from concept through to production while mentoring a talented team of engineers.

The Role

Reporting to the Mechanical Design Engineering Manager, you will provide technical leadership across complex product development projects, ensuring innovative, compliant and manufacturable engineering solutions are delivered on time and to the highest standards.

You will lead a team of approximately six Mechanical Engineers while driving engineering excellence, technical governance and continuous improvement across the product development lifecycle.

  • Lead the mechanical engineering delivery of complex product development and technology projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and leadership for a team of approximately six Mechanical Engineers.
  • Plan, allocate and coordinate engineering work packages across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure designs meet customer, stakeholder and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion best practice in mechanical engineering, product safety, quality and reliability.
  • Lead engineering design reviews, risk assessments and technical decision making.
  • Support products from concept through development, validation and into volume manufacture.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in specialist areas of semiconductor equipment design.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, promoting continuous improvement and engineering excellence.

About You

You will be an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in complex product development within a highly regulated engineering environment.

You'll ideally have:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience designing complex mechanical systems.
  • Previous experience leading engineering teams or providing technical leadership on major engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering governance, product safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience within semiconductor equipment, scientific instrumentation, aerospace, medical devices or other high-technology manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of engineering risk assessment methodologies including HAZOP, PHA, LOPA and FMEA.
  • Familiarity with standards such as EN 61511, SEMI S2 and SEMI S10 would be highly advantageous.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or working towards professional registration, is desirable.
