Lead Mechanical Engineer

Purpose of Role
VINCI Facilities is recruiting an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership and engineering assurance across a portfolio of Defence Estates. The successful candidate will ensure that mechanical systems and infrastructure are operated, maintained and managed in line with statutory, contractual and MOD requirements.
Job Description
Working across multiple Defence locations, the Lead Mechanical Engineer will provide technical governance and compliance support relating to boilers, pressure systems and critical mechanical plant.
The successful candidate will act as the subject matter expert within their discipline, ensuring safe working practices and compliance standards are consistently maintained while supporting operational delivery teams and specialist contractors.
Responsibilities
- Act as the Mechanical Authorised Person across designated Defence sites
- Ensure compliance with mechanical safe systems of work
- Review and authorise maintenance and project activities
- Provide technical support and guidance to operational teams
- Conduct compliance inspections, audits and assurance reviews
- Support risk management and incident investigations
- Monitor contractor competence and performance
- Maintain engineering records and compliance documentation
- Support maintenance programmes and project delivery
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering safety and compliance

Essential Qualifications/Skills
- Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 qualification in a Mechanical discipline
- Experience with boilers, pressure systems and heavy mechanical equipment
- Strong understanding of engineering compliance and safety procedures
- Experience working within a regulated or safety-critical environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work across multiple sites and locations
- Full UK Driving Licence
