St Joseph's Hospice
St Joseph's Hospice - providing compassionate, specialist palliative care to people in the diverse community of East London living with life-limiting illness – are looking for a Lead Medical Consultant and Head of Palliative Medicine to influence the shape of palliative medicine and hospice care in one of the oldest and largest hospices in England.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing senior specialist clinical leadership across hospice services.
- Delivering expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with complex palliative and end of life care needs.
- Undertaking and supporting the development of advanced symptom management practice.
- Leading decision-making in highly complex clinical situations.
- Providing expert advice to multidisciplinary colleagues through ward rounds, community visits, multi-disciplinary meetings, case load reviews, virtual consultations.
- Leading and managing the medical team, including managing the medical budget.
- Ensuring safe and effective medical staffing across hospice services.
- Promoting a culture of safety, learning and continuous improvement.
- Participating in and leading investigations into incidents, complaints and patient safety concerns.
- Contributing to the development, delivery and review of organisational strategy and associated development of hospice services.
- Building productive relationships with NHS, social care and voluntary sector partners.
- Leading medical education within the hospice.

Skills and Experience
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Palliative Medicine, or eligibility for entry within six months of interview.
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent Royal College qualification.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and participation in appraisal and revalidation.
- Significant experience as a Consultant in Palliative Medicine.
- Experience of leading multidisciplinary teams, with excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Expert knowledge of specialist palliative care.
- Strong understanding of healthcare governance and regulation.
- Advanced communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to manage complexity and organisational change.
- Strong strategic and analytical thinking.
- Ability to build effective professional partnerships.

Salary
£113,565 - £150,569 per annum, depending on experience + 2% on-call supplement.
Contract and Hours
Permanent, full-time, 40 hours per week plus on-call work (working pattern - 10 programmed activities + on-call rota).

St Joseph's Hospice, Mare Street, London, E8 4SA.
