We are looking for a prolific (top 1%) Windows and Automation Engineer with genuine depth of skill and expertise, and we have the hiring budget for the very best - up to £500k PA. Please read the spec below - Visa sponsorship is not available.
We can't consider a mid- or junior-level Engineer; this position is for an exceptionally strong Microsoft Automation Engineer with a track record of working on and owning highly sophisticated Windows estates and delivering significant automations using PowerShell (or similar) and Infrastructure-as-Code.
This is not a traditional Windows Engineering role!
You'll join a small, elite team responsible for designing, automating and evolving one of London's most sophisticated Microsoft platforms. The business manages many billions in assets, and technology is a genuine competitive advantage, and engineering quality matters.

What you'll be doing
You'll take ownership of Windows platform engineering projects from concept through architecture, implementation and operational handover, while partnering closely with Engineering and business teams.

Your work will include:
- Building automation that eliminates operational toil using PowerShell and reusable tooling.
- Applying Infrastructure-as-Code across enterprise Windows platforms.
- Designing scalable, resilient and secure infrastructure rather than simply maintaining it.
- Modernising and continuously improving a highly sophisticated Microsoft estate.
- Working directly with demanding internal stakeholders supporting mission-critical investment technology.
- Leading technical projects while remaining 100% hands-on throughout delivery.
We're looking for engineers who have:
- Expert Windows Server administration skills, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and core Microsoft infrastructure.
- Advanced PowerShell development experience, including writing reusable modules, tooling and automation frameworks.
- A genuine Infrastructure-as-Code mindset and experience delivering version-controlled infrastructure.
- Strong VMware, Hyper-V and/or VDI experience, together with exposure to Azure or AWS.
- Knowledge of enterprise security, platform hardening and modern Windows best practices.
- A passion for building scalable, maintainable engineering solutions rather than quick fixes.
- Outstanding troubleshooting ability, excellent communication skills and a logical, engineering-first mindset.
- Experience operating in demanding, high-performance environments with significant ownership.

The role is based in Central London with four days per week onsite.
