Salary: £66,582 - £77,368 per annum/ pro rata

The Lead Midwife for Education will provide strategic and operational leadership for education, training, workforce development and practice learning across maternity services.

The post holder will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of education programmes for registered and unregistered maternity staff, ensuring the workforce is equipped with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to deliver safe, effective and personalised care.

The Lead Midwife for Education will be responsible for the maternity education strategy, governance of practice-based learning, preceptorship, apprenticeship pathways, clinical skills development and compliance with NMC standards. They will work in partnership with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), NHS England, Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems (LMNS), Professional Midwifery Advocates and internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality learning environments and positive outcomes for staff, learners and women and families.

  • Lead the development and delivery of the Maternity Education Strategy in line with Trust, regional and national priorities.
  • Lead all pre-registration and post-registration education activity within maternity services.
  • Ensure compliance with NMC requirements relating to practice learning environments.
  • Provide expert professional leadership on education, workforce development and practice learning across maternity services.
  • Lead workforce development initiatives supporting recruitment, retention, career progression and succession planning.
  • Work closely with governance and risk teams to promote learning from clinical incidents and patient feedback.
