The Role
A Lead Multi-Skilled Forklift Driver to provide on-the-job training and guidance to staff carrying out daily yard activities, including the movement and handling of produce and materials, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and site presentation.
Working hours: 06:30am - 7:00pm on a panama shift pattern
The Position
- Serve as the first point of contact for forklift drivers during shifts, training, mentoring, and offering guidance and support.
- Monitor yard activities to ensure compliance with health and safety standards; report unsafe behavior or near-miss incidents.
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment to load, unload, and transport produce and materials safely.
- Ensure loads are secure and protect people, buildings, and machinery and move bins, pallets, trays, and materials across site and place them neatly in the correct location.
- Stack bins, pallets, and trays safely and to the correct height as instructed.
- Use ramps safely for loading and unloading trays, big bags, and garlic.
- Perform routine checks including cleaning, water, oil, diesel, and tyre pressure for forklifts.
- Ensure all defects with machinery and equipment are reported immediately.
- Use relevant machinery to handle bins, pallets, big bags, and bulk materials - shunter, scissor lift, and compactor.
- Keep all waste areas organized and controlled.
- During cold snaps, salt walkways and outdoor forklift areas to ensure safe movement.
- Maintain stock of trays, pallets, and packaging for factory use.
- Operate the 3t box tipper for 3-tonne bins and for decanting big bags.
- Use a scanner to maintain full traceability of all product being moved, stored, or transported on and off site.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and organized yard.
- Prepare product for outloading (boxes, bags, bulkers).
- Manage pallet intake/outload (White, Brown, Blue, Red).
- Carry out floor repairs and general site and yard maintenance.
- Carry out weekly greasing, refuelling, and AdBlue top-up for the shunter and teleporter.

The Perfect Candidate Should Have
- Valid Counterbalance (B1) and 7-tonne (B2) forklift licences.
- Ramp, scissor lift, and shunter trained, ideally.
- Teleporter licence.
- Swiftlifts.
- Good level of physical dexterity and mobility.
- Ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, depending upon season.
- Proven experience operating forklifts in a fast-paced yard or warehouse environment.
- Ability to lead by example and provide support to junior staff.
- Sound understanding of workplace health & safety practices, particularly in a yard setting.
- A proactive approach with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
