Lead Night Nurse

Location: Bury St Edmunds

Hours: Minimum 30hrs/wk (over at least 3 days)

Rota: Day shifts / Weekend rota participation required

Salary: £42,000 per annum FTE (including OOH premium)

Veterinary Nurse to become Senior Medical & Wards Nurse at Swayne & Partners Bury St Edmunds

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to become Lead Night Nurse at Swayne & Partners Bury St Edmunds.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an RVN who enjoys working within a busy hospital environment and is ready to take on additional leadership and responsibility within our established night team. Working alongside our OOH Vet Lead, you will help coordinate the night nursing team and support the delivery of high-quality care to emergency and hospitalised patients.

You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills, support your fellow RVNs and contribute to the organisation and continued development of our overnight nursing service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high standards of patient and inpatient care
  • Provide clinical leadership and support to the night nursing team.
  • Work alongside the OOH Vet Lead to coordinate the night nursing rota and staffing.
  • Support the allocation of nursing responsibilities according to patient needs, workload and competency.
  • Oversee and promote high standards of inpatient and emergency nursing care overnight.
  • Ensure effective communication and handover between the night and daytime teams.
  • Support and mentor other RVNs within the night team.
  • Identify and escalate clinical, staffing or operational concerns appropriately.
  • Promote compliance with practice SOPs, clinical standards and patient care protocols.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the night nursing service.
  • Work collaboratively with vets, nurses, VCAs, and reception teams
  • Contribute to maintaining high clinical and hygiene standards throughout the practice

About You:

  • Qualified and registered RVN
  • Is a positive role model and can lead by example
  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Is proactive, adaptable, and compassionate
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to patient care and clinical excellence
  • Has an interest in developing advanced nursing skills
  • Able to commit to at least 30hr week across a minimum of 3 days and participate in the weekend rota.
