Lead Officer Alternative Engagement Pathway (Tailor-Made Programmes)

Permanent Contract | Full Time

Inclusion Support Service

Applications for alternative hours will be considered for this role.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Derbyshire County Council's Inclusion Support Service as Lead Officer Alternative Engagement Pathway (Tailor-Made Programmes). We are seeking an experienced, passionate and strategic leader to join our newly evolving Alternative Pathways Team from 1 January 2027.

This role will lead the development and delivery of Derbyshire's Section 19 offer for children and young people who are unable to attend school due to medical needs or other exceptional circumstances. The post holder will be expected to work across Derbyshire as required.

The Alternative Pathways Team brings together our established Out of School Tuition and Tailor-Made Programmes teams and is currently undergoing a significant period of transformation. As we broaden and develop our offer, this is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping services that improve outcomes, strengthen inclusion and better meet the diverse needs of children and young people.

About The Role

As Lead Officer, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Alternative Engagement Pathway (Tailor-Made Programmes) ensuring that children and young people receive high-quality educational provision when they cannot attend school. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across Inclusion Support Services, schools, partner agencies and wider Children's Services to champion inclusion and drive positive change for children with additional, and often complex, needs and vulnerabilities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
