Overview
We're partnering with a FTSE 100 organisation undergoing a major transformation of its operational, analytical, and decision-making capabilities. As part of this journey, we're seeking a Lead Operational Research Data Scientist to spearhead the development of advanced optimisation and decision-support capabilities across the enterprise. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who combines deep Operational Research expertise with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, shape strategic direction, and drive adoption of data-driven decision-making at scale.
You'll operate at the intersection of business strategy, advanced analytics, and operational execution, partnering with executive leaders, domain experts, and technical teams to solve some of the organisation's most complex challenges.
The Opportunity
This role goes beyond model development. We're looking for an experienced OR leader who can help define how optimisation and decision science create value across the organisation, identifying opportunities, influencing investment decisions, and ensuring analytical solutions translate into measurable business outcomes. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of Operational Research capabilities while remaining close enough to the technology and modelling to provide expert guidance and leadership.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
