About the Role

The Lead Operations Software Engineer creates, enhances, and maintains business applications, configures custom code to support the company's business needs, and marshals those configurations through a standard SDLC progression. The Lead Engineer is responsible for project deliverables in line with quality targets and SLAs while adhering to best practices, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), the company's processes, and global industry regulations. The role requires in-depth product and user application knowledge, as well as oversight of a team of engineers within the Global Technical Delivery organization. You will be accountable for ensuring the team delivers quality projects that meet technical standards and follow software coding best practices while acting as a critical contributor to implementing and adopting the organization's initiatives and process improvements.

Key Accountabilities

Application Development / Study Configuration

  • Oversee work from a team of engineers to ensure quality, on-time development, and release of business applications.
  • Set clear productivity and quality objectives for the team and track progress against development and business KPIs.
  • Work with management to define the vision, roadmaps, and goals, and play a key role in implementing that vision and driving process improvements.
  • Act as a technology and domain subject matter expert in one or more business and technical areas.
  • Motivate staff and strengthen teamwork.
  • Recommend, implement, and maintain tools associated with team-based software development while following proper documentation procedures.
  • Contribute to the creation of departmental procedure documents and working instructions.
  • Provide technical leadership to drive the successful completion of development projects.
  • Create and approve technical design documentation.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of technical standards.
  • Participate as a member of the development team to implement business applications.
  • Perform code reviews and enforce source control and proper coding practices.
  • Ensure all technical documentation is in place, reviewed, and approved for projects.
  • Actively participate in technical training and mentoring for junior team members and cross-functional teams.
  • Enforce proper JIRA etiquette, procedures across functional areas, and developer status communication to project teams.
  • Support all phases of verification and testing by efficiently diagnosing and resolving defects; serve as 2nd tier support for defects.
  • Collaborate with the Delivery Manager/Lead and Global Project Management to improve delivery time.
  • Understand and follow all coding standards; collaborate with the product development team to integrate implemented code and database objects into release applications; perform smoke testing for released applications as required.
  • Willingly adopt and support iterative process improvements set forth by GTD.

  • Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Reporting Services, and T-SQL.
  • Microsoft Visual Studio IDE, ASP.NET MVC, C# with LINQ.
  • Web code and data standards for HTML, JavaScript, XML, JSON, and REST.

Site Support Responsibilities (Rater Station only)

  • Adhere to source control, versioning best practices, and operational process requirements.
  • Perform general site support in support of study configurations in the field, as required.
  • Diagnose and resolve defects as part of general site support.
  • Prepare and confirm all required change control documentation, including updates to design and other technical documents.
  • Deploy resolutions to testing and production environments as required.

Quality System Responsibilities

  • Perform all work in accordance with documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Working Instructions; adhere to Good Clinical Practices (GCP), 21 CFR Part 11, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, information systems, business, or computer science, or equivalent years of experience.
  • 3–5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership.
  • Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and T-SQL.
  • Microsoft Visual Studio IDE, ASP.NET MVC, C# with LINQ.
  • Web code and data standards for HTML, JavaScript, XML, JSON, and REST.
  • Source control software such as Team Foundation Server, Bitbucket, or other Git-based tools.
  • Strong knowledge of application development, configuration, and support areas.
  • Ability to work independently and resourcefully toward quality, high-performance solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment, including knowing when to escalate.
  • Ability to provide concise and accurate feedback to clients and teams on progress and outcomes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and provide backup support to team members.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships across functional areas.
  • Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to understand business requirements and recommend improvements.
  • Willingness to share knowledge openly, including lessons learned.
  • Experience leading software design and development efforts on assigned projects.
  • Experience estimating project time for quoting development and support tasks.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality output.
  • Strong communication, time management, teamwork, and organizational skills.
