Reporting to: Chief Vehicle Engineer

Role Overview

The Lead Package Engineer is responsible for leading the vehicle packaging and integration activities across a portfolio of niche, low-volume, and specialist vehicle programmes. The role ensures that all vehicle systems, components and occupants are effectively integrated within defined package constraints while delivering customer, regulatory, manufacturing, cost, and timing objectives.

Working as a key member of the vehicle engineering team, the Lead Package Engineer will coordinate cross-functional engineering activities, drive technical solutions to complex packaging challenges, and provide package leadership from concept development through to production launch.

The role requires an individual capable of operating in a fast-paced environment where vehicle architectures, customer requirements, and programme objectives often differ between projects.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Package Leadership

  • Lead vehicle packaging activities across multiple special vehicle and niche vehicle programmes.
  • Develop and maintain vehicle package strategies from concept through production.
  • Define and manage vehicle hard points, package layouts, and occupant accommodation requirements.
  • Ensure package feasibility and integration of all vehicle systems.
  • Own package compatibility between different commodity areas.
  • Lead package reviews and support programme gateway deliverables.

Concept Development

  • Generate package concepts and trade-off studies to support programme decision making.
  • Conduct package benchmarking analyses against competitor and customer vehicles.
  • Evaluate alternative technical solutions to resolve package conflicts.
  • Support vehicle architecture definition and platform adaptation activities.

Engineering Integration

  • Coordinate between the different vehicle commodities to ensure that systems are effectively integrated.
  • Manage package issue resolution and drive robust engineering solutions.
  • Ensure package releases support programme timing and engineering sign-off requirements.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
